Scientific translations: a brief introduction

Translation is often referred to as “a written or spoken rendering of the meaning of a word or text in another language[1]“ Nonetheless, his process becomes even more complex when faced technical or specialized languages. Each specialized field of knowledge has its own structure and terminology; in the case of scientific translations, since they are mostly aimed at a specialist audience and because scientific language has a more specific and precise terminology, support from an expert is essential.

Scientific translators: who is qualified?

Science translations or scientific translations must be carried out by a qualified specialized translator with the appropriate training and knowledge. In order to carry out a scientific translation, the translator must have a good understanding of the subject matter, as well as knowledge in the relevant field. Terminology, concepts and their meaning, writing style rules specific to the scientific language are all essential elements of the scientific translation process and knowledge that the translator must posses.
